Philip Thalis is a principal of Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects.

Hill Thalis is recognized for its design skill and independent standpoint. It has won more than 90 awards, commendations and competitions for architectural, urban, public domain and heritage projects across a range of project types and scales.

Philip actively promotes the culture of architecture and city making, combining directing the practice with teaching, research, conference papers, public lectures and architectural criticism. His book Public Sydney; Drawing the City (co-authored with Peter John Cantrill) was published to acclaim in 2013. In 2016 Uro Publishing released Minomono #2 on Hill Thalis' work. In 2009 Philip was awarded the AIA New South Wales Presidents Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Architectural Profession (jointly with Peter John Cantrill), and in 2019 he was made a life fellow of the AIA.

In conjunction with practice, Philip served as a City of Sydney councillor from 2016 to 2021, and is a professor of practice in architecture (fractional) at the University of New South Wales.
