Introduction

Unbuilt works are an important way of conducting architectural experiment, research and development – a way to speculate on the future and to critically engage with the present. The AA Prize for Unbuilt Work is the only avenue for the public recognition of this work in Australia and offers an exciting opportunity to help build Australia's architectural culture by recognising works proposed but not built.

Practices of all types and scales may enter the prize and entries encompass a broad array of work, all of it connected in some way to Australian architecture and the built environment. The prize is an important stepping-stone for industry leaders of the future as demonstrated by past winners.
